Inuyasha Character's Description

Akago

Name Information:

Akago translates to 'baby'. He is also sometimes referred to as Akanbo (baby boy).

Character Description:

Akago is the first form of the 6th detachment of Naraku who takes the form of a young baby and serves as Naraku's heart so that Naraku can be destroyed, but still regenerate (since his heart is somewhere else).

He can speak (at least until Hakudoshi detaches), and has the ability to read minds. He is able to take the evilness of a person and use it to command them.

Akago was split in half by a powerful monk (Master Shinsen) while searching for the border between hell and the living world and turned into Hakudoshi and eventually Moryomaru.

He was placed under the protection of a woman (who was tricked into thinking he was hers). Later on, this woman is killed by Kohaku, and Kanna takes Akago into hiding again.

He is given the stolen Fyoheki stone to hide him from others, and is later incorporated into Moryomaru.

Ayame

Character Description:

Ayame is a wolf demon who was rescued by Koga when she was very young. He promised her that one day he would come back and marry her once she grew up.

When Koga meets up with Ayame again after many years, she still holds him to this promise, but he must first find Kagura, who destroyed his wolf tribe. He must avenge their death.

Ayame is quite strong herself, and she can throw grass and leaves which can slice through demons. She once helps save Hakkaku and Ginta - two of Koga's friends.

Later, her tribe is attacked and Koga comes to the rescue. This starts the Shichinintai saga.

An interesting fact - Ayame was made specifically for the anime, and was not in the manga!

Eri, Ayumi, and Yuka

Character Description:

Eri, Ayumi, and Yuka are good friends of Kagome. They all go to school together in modern-day Tokyo.

When Kagome is around, they are always asking questions about her mysterious boyfriend (Inuyasha). Kagome reveals some information, but not that he is a half demon in feudal Japan. They do meet him later however, and seem to approve. The three of them don't understand why Kagome is not interested in Hojo (a boy at their school who obviously likes her), but Kagome spends most of her time with Inuyasha and the others.

In class, Ayumi always does well on tests, while Eri and Yuka often do badly. Kagome has to work hard to keep up since she has so little time to study.

Band of Seven

Character Description:

The Band of Seven is a group of assassins which Naraku brought back to life as borei (zombies) with Shikon Shards, in an effort to delay his powerful enemies seeking his destruction, while becoming a full demon.

Bankotsu

Character Description:

As the leader of the Shichinintai (Band of Seven), Bankotsu is referred to as "big brother" (o-aniki) by the other 6 assassins. He retrieves his giant blade Banryu from a castle whose previous lord participated in a plot to put an end to the Shichinintai because they were too strong and stirred great fear among the rogue military leaders. The blade which requires 3 men to carry is wielded by Bankotsu single-handedly, and InuYasha is no match for him in one on one melee combat without his Tessaiga.

Bankotsu also has a close relationship with his comrade, Jakotsu. Prior to Jakotsu's death, they share a sweet moment in which Bankotsu is brought to tears due to Jakotsu's trust and loyalty to him. The young leader then hugs his comrade saying, "You're the only one I can really rely on." This relationship is also part of the cause in his anger towards Renkotsu when he discovers it was due to Renkotsu's scheming that Jakotsu was killed.

By defeating Renkotsu who challenged him, Bankotsu obtains all of the 7 Shikon Shards given to the Shichinintai by Naraku, in addition to the 2 shards he took from Kagome and imbedded in his weapon. A total of 9 shards was in his possession and his strength increased immensely. Altogether, Bankotsu slew 1,000 yokai including 9 inside Mount Hakurei, and killed 1,000 military soldiers with his blade Banryu. Banryu, in turn, transforms and is able to release powerful demonic energy. However, this proves to be his downfall as InuYasha takes the opportunity and unleashes the Bakuryuha, crushing Bankotsu and shattering Banryu. (This attack and the more power-obsessed Bankotsu is only in the anime, in the manga Inuyasha defeated Bankotsu by pure luck.)

When Naraku emerges from his transformation into a full-fledged demon, he turns the entire Mount Hakurei to be a part of him, takes up Bankotsu's body and weapon, and removes all 9 shards, leaving only one shard unaccounted for to complete the whole jewel.
